It is with great disappointment that I am cancelling the planned public meeting to discuss the future of the old RBL site.

Since sending out the invitation the other day, it has been confirmed that the previous designation of the building as an “Asset of Community Value” lapsed in September and therefore that we no longer have a right to bid for the property.

It has also become known that the agents have published a closing date for bids of 19th November – this coming Friday !!  I had hoped that I could persuade the agents to defer this for a further week so that we could still hold the public meeting.  Sadly, the agents are not prepared to do so given the current instructions they have from the sellers.

That being so, there is no opportunity for the community to even consider making a bid and so regrettably there is no point in holding a public meeting.  And I really don’t want to waste people’s valuable time.

Obviously, I will try to work with the purchaser of the site to ensure that we get the best outcome for residents.  Indeed, I would expect any decent developer to work closely with the community prior to the submission of any planning application anyway and I will keep residents informed of any plans for community consultation if and when these become known.

Once again, my apologies for a false start but hopefully all is not yet lost !!

Sincerely,

PUBLIC MEETING ON THE OLD RBL BUILDING NOW Cancelled

As many residents will be aware, the old RBL building is now up for sale on the open market for at least £500,000 and I’m keen to find out whether there might be general village support to purchase the building and, if so, how we would raise the money and how subsequently we might make it work ??

Personally, I have always felt that the current community centre doesn’t meet all the possible needs of the village and quite often the old RBL building was used in its stead. I am aware that, in the past, many village organisations (including the FHRA) often held meetings there and that it was also used for social events run both privately and by community organisations.

Therefore, in conjunction with the Church and both Chairmen of the Community Association and the Residents’ Association, I’m hosting a public meeting at the church to ascertain what appetite there might be to bid for the old RBL site with the aim of maintaining it for the general good of the village into the future ??

The vicar has kindly agreed to let me use the church and doors will open at 7.45pm.

If you would like to attend, please let me know using the e-mail address below so that I can manage numbers attending if needs be.

Thanking you in anticipation.
