Kitchen Refurbishment Completed
Users of the Community Centre will be aware of the work that has been going on in the kitchen since just after Christmas.
The whole room has been gutted, and completely refurbished. A false ceiling with concealed lighting has been installed, which also hides the flue from the smart new extractor hood over the gas cooker.
New lockable kitchen cabinets have been fitted, some of which will be allocated to regular hall users, with the remainder for general use.
The old window has been replaced with a more attractive, modern sealed unit, and the floor has been recovered with a durable, non-slip surface. A dedicated hand-washing sink has been installed to comply with current hygiene requirements, and a new hot-water heater for making tea and coffee is available for users.
The Committee would like to thank users of the Centre for their patience during this work – which took rather than longer than originally anticipated, a consequence of difficulties encountered scheduling the different tradesmen who were involved. However, we are sure that everyone will appreciate the end result.

What's the scaffolding all about?
Villagers may be wondering about the scaffolding erected down the Swains Lane side of the Community Centre, and the men working up aloft. It's a sign of the times - or rather the passage of time!
The Community Centre celebrated its 30th Birthday this year, although this was kept very quiet......! Unfortunately, the passing years have taken their toll on parts of the fabric of the building, and we are having to replace the wooden box guttering along that side of the building. Nowadays, builders would use reinforced plastic which has much greater durability, but in the mid-70's, such structures were made of timber covered with roofing felt.
The recent heavy rain not only overwhelmed the gutter system but also found its way into the corner of the Centre, so these repairs are much needed. We are also planning to replace the tungsten filament decorative lights, which are in a poor state of repair and expensive to run, with modern, low energy LED lights - when we can raise the necessary funds or find sponsorship. |

FHCA Press Release, January 2007 |
Community Centre Refurbishment
Our architect has completed his Preliminary Inspection of the new building work and prepared a list of jobs for completion. The majority of the old chairs have been disposed of and new, lightweight folding chairs have been obtained, courtesy of a grant from the Bucks Masonic Centenary Fund. These were used for the first time for the Scouts pre-Christmas production of 'Treasure Island', when the stage was also used for the first time in many years, complete with stage lighting and sound. We are having a 'Clear Out Day' on Saturday, February 3rd. and will welcome any assistance in getting rid of many years of accumulated 'rubbish'!
On Saturday, February 17th, the Community Centre will be open between 10 am and 1 pm for residents to come and see the new facilities, with an opportunity to enjoy free refreshments and find out just what goes on in their Community Centre. Hopefully, all the outstanding building work will have been completed by then.

COMMUNITY CENTRE REFURBISHMENT
We’re almost there!
It’s taken longer than we anticipated, but users will be pleased with the final results. The new toilets are impressive - both gents and ladies facilities are now in use; there is a dedicated toilet for the less-abled and for changing your baby; and at long last we have some accessible storage space. Our cleaner will also have her own room with a water heater and sink; somewhere to keep all the cleaning tools and materials in one place! Soon we will be able to clear all the chairs and other ‘stuff’ off the stage into the new store that has been created by the extension to the front of the building. This will allow the stage to be used more effectively than at present. The old chairs are being replaced with modern, light, folding ones courtesy of a grant from the Bucks Masonic Centenary Fund, complete with storage/moving trolleys. The old chairs are to be disposed of, so if you know of anyone who could use them, please contact John Sweetman (01628-528671)
