PRESS RELEASE November 2003

TRAFFIC

You should now have all received a questionnaire about the traffic problems with your copy of the Parish Magazine. Please let us have your views and return c/o Unit 4.

TOILET BLOCK

The questionnaire with regard to the Toilet Block will be sent out with the December issue of the Grapevine and hopefully a few extra houses as well. This questionnaire has a closing date of 30 November on it. Unfortunately we have been unable to get this to you quickly so please ignore this date and let us have your comments back asap.

POLICING GROUP

Following discussion at a recent meeting it has been decided that it is perhaps better for any crimes/anti social behaviour/vandalism etc. to be reported to The Police Group of the FHRC as opposed to sending copies to the four people listed in our original press release. This will save costs to all concerned and the Chairman of the Policing Group will collate all information and forward it to the Thames Valley Police and chase action. Ideally of course please use the Email addresses provided which will save you time. Anyone not having a computer can of course still send correspondence c/o Unit 4.

We are still looking for dedicated people to help with this very difficult group who can provide support and ideas to help us go forward with our plans. Please get in touch with The Chairman on the Email address provided or c/o Unit 4.

CHRISTMAS DECORATION GROUP

Things are well ahead for the Christmas Lights and Tree and the switch on date has been fixed for 13 December. It is hoped that local children or the local Church choirs will sing carols around the tree and the Community centre have kindly agreed that a room will be provided for some small refreshments i.e. mince pies, and a few drinks for the villagers. Please is there anyone out there who could perhaps help with this particular event. If you could spare a little time please contact The Christmas Decoration Group on the Email address provided or by letter c/o Unit 4.

We have had a tremendous response from many villagers with donations for the Christmas Lights. THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE. In a later edition of the Grapevine we will advise you just how much has been collected and will mention everyone's name who contributed. Please keep your contributions coming in.

We would like to thank the Community Centre Committee for agreeing to let us have access on their property and for making a generous donation to the Christmas lights fund.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

We have had several communications from people regarding providing a skateboard park for the youth and other facilities. We obviously can only concentrate our efforts on certain projects unless we have more support from you. Is there anyone who would be interested in joining this group and seeing the project through to a satisfactory solution?

For your convenience herewith Email addresses for contacting the group.

NEXT PUBLIC MEETING

The next public meeting has been fixed for 19th January from 6pm to 7.30pm at The Community Centre and we hope you will support us. You have been kept completely up to date with FHRC activities but hopefully we can completely update you further at this meeting. We will be writing to the Thames Valley Police and Mr Dominic Grieve to invite them to this meeting.

THE GRAPEVINE

In order that we can let as many people possible know of our activities, could you please try and recommend The Grapevine to your friends. Please ring Irene Walker on 01628 529710 if you would like a copy. Circulation has increased since the formation of the FHRC and the appointment of Andy Kirk as Editor and we would like to think that more and more people will find it of interest to keep up with village news. Our thanks go to Irene Walker, her co-ordinator and the road reps for agreeing to deliver the questionnaire on the Toilet Block. This is greatly appreciated.

Can we also, too, thank the Flackwell Heath Scouts and their leaders for all their sterling work in ensuring that our flyers and questionnaires on traffic have been delivered to residents of Flackwell Heath. We appreciate that this has taken a lot of time and trouble and shows a great community spirit.

We would also like to take the opportunity of thanking Julia Langley Cabinet Member for the Community, Wycombe District Councillor and Chris Mansfield .Business Development Manager, Community and Housing Director, Wycombe District Council for their help and support in obtaining permissions and funds towards the Christmas Tree Lights and Decorations and for pointing us in the right direction on many occasions.

HELP!

Finally we still need more help from the villagers to help the FHRC to move forward with its plans. To remind you The Steering Committee consists of a body of six people and has various sub Committees to work on specific tasks. The Chairman of each Sub Committee also sits on the Steering Committee. We now desperately need people to take on various tasks that we are, at the moment, unable to tackle due to lack of support and time. If you have any particular local issues that you would like to tackle please get in touch with the Steering Committee on the Email address above. Even if you do not want to sit on the Steering Committee we are sure there are vacancies for committee members on the sub committees. Please help. We would still like to tackle the problem of facilities for the young (see above), litter and many other issues which were mentioned at the Public Meeting last year. If you are interested please contact steeringcommittee@flackwellheath.net or write c/o Unit 4.

PRESS RELEASE 18th June 2003

The Committee are pleased to advise that in addition to the recent groups set up for Policing, Vandalism, Christmas Lighting/Decorations etc. a new Shopkeepers Group has now been formed which we have great hopes will assist us in achieving lower crime levels in Flackwell Heath, and "Lighting Up The Village" at Christmas. Initial steps have been taken to form a Traffic Group, and we are looking for two or three volunteers from the village who would be willing to be actively involved in this project.

Very positive results have been achieved by our Policing/Vandalism/CCTV group and strong representatives are making an impact. Contact has been made to the authorities regarding the security of the Recreation Ground and to the re-siting, or removal of the toilet block which seems to be the centre-point for problems experienced. We hope to report further on this in the Autumn.

A member of Wycombe District Council attended a recent meeting of the FHRC Group dealing with Christmas lights, etc. and was very supportive. Flackwell Heath will be allocated a sum for this purpose which has not yet been decided on and we are hoping for support from local businesses to top up this figure.

If you wish to correspond with us at any time, could we ask you please to write c/o Unit 4, who do ensure that we receive your letters.

AS A RESIDENT OF FLACKWELL HEATH THIS CONCERNS YOU

Following the meeting on 20 January at the Flackwell Heath Community Centre, the Steering Committee is now in the process of forming six action groups to cover

  POLICING AND LIGHTING
  RECREATION GROUND/LITTER ETC
  TRAFFIC, ROADS AND PARKING
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS/DECORATIONS/CHRISTMAS TREE & HANGING BASKETS IN SUMMER
INCREASING THE COMMUNITY SPIRIT WITHIN THE VILLAGE

A local businessman has offered to join the steering committee as a representative for local shops, trades etc. which when established will give increased weight to proposals put forward.

The main problem voiced was lack of policing, vandalism etc. Our enquiries reveal that the best results will be obtained by action being taken by the individual concerned at the time of any criminal incidents. Every incident MUST be reported individually, in writing no matter how small, TO ALL LISTED BELOW:
Mr Dominic Grieve MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A OAA, with copies to The Chief Constable, Mr P Neyroud, Thames Valley Police, Kidlington, Oxford OX5 2NX, Chief Superintendent Donlon, Thames Valley Police, High Wycombe Police Station, Queen Victoria Road, High Wycombe, Bucks. HP11 1BE and Inspector Evans, Thames Valley Police, Marlow Police Station, Dean Street, Marlow, SL7 3AB. Final copy to FHRC C/O Unit 4 so we can re-use at a later date.

FLACKWELL HEATH IS AT PRESENT A LOW PRIORITY CRIME AREA BECAUSE INCIDENTS ARE NOT REPORTED. MAKE THE POLICE MORE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS BY REPORTING EVERY INCIDENT AND INCREASING THE CRIME FIGURES TO A MORE REALISTIC LEVEL.

Previous information posted 21st January 2003

On Monday 20th January a meeting took place in the community centre to see if the village would support the idea of a Residents Committee. As over 200 people attended it was quite clear that this proposal was an excellent idea.

Five residents from the village arranged this meeting and are keen to be the steering committee, with sub-committees being formed to deal with various issues that need addressing. Ideas already being considered are: -

  • More visual police presence to counteract crime and vandalism.
  • Traffic issues - noise pollution, lighting etc.
  • The return of a village "feel" by maybe improving street lighting, adding hanging baskets and more Christmas decorations.
  • Stopping the recreation ground and children's play area from being vandalised or destroyed.
  • Encouraging local businesses to become involved with the committee.

YOUR VIEWS ARE IMPORTANT TO THE COMMITTEE, so please go to Unit 4 Newsagents, where you can obtain a form and let them know your thoughts and ideas on matters of interest concerning the village. If you can offer any help, even better!
