The Flackwell Heath Residents’ Association is working with village organisations, societies and clubs, the schools, the businesses, pubs, restaurants, the Scouts and individuals to make the double bank holiday of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

Saturday 2 June

Today attention will be concentrated on the centre of the village. There will be something for everybody, indeed there will be several somethings for everybody. The two Womens’ Institutes will be providing tea and cakes. The Community Centre will sparkle with music, Jubilee artwork from Juniper and the Carringtons will adorn the walls and for the horticulturists among us there will be the official opening of the gardens on School Green

You will see people leaving the Community Centre. They will be going to follow one of the three historical trails making royal connections or a tour. Or they may be off to see the wild flowers, birds and mammals which live on Pigeon House Farm with the environment friendly farmers, Ray and Ivan Smith.

In the evening there will be dancing at the Royal British Legion.

Sunday 3 June

This is the day that the organisers of the National Celebrations have decreed there will be street lunches and parties.  If you have never had a street celebration we can put you in touch with someone who can give you some practical advice.

The Royal British Legion will be laying on a BBQ lunch with music in the afternoon.

We will also have a list of the pubs, restaurants and coffee shops around the village who will be providing a wide range of food and drink.

Monday 4 June

Marlow District Scouts have been selected to light a beacon that can be seen for miles. Where else would they put it but the Carrington School Field in Flackwell Heath?  Many thanks to Amanda Fell, Head Teacher at Carrington Junior School, for her permission to use the field.

Imagine a beautiful June day with a long, balmy evening where there is music, dancing, food, drinks, swings and roundabouts. Then at dusk, it becomes serious as the Scouts renew their promises  and we will see beacons lighting up in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire as part of  network covering the whole country.

Flackwell really has got talent. The entertainment for the evening will mostly be professional musicians with local connections  but there will also be acts from amateurs who live in Flackwell or go to school here. You will soon see posters inviting people aged between 7 and 100 with a talent for singing, dancing, magic or anything else to come to auditions in April.  (Watch this website)

We want as many people as possible to participate in making this a memorable weekend. If you or your organisation would like to contribute skills, talent or abilities please contact Tim Kendell on 01628 521149 or email flackwellnewsvine@btinternet.com Tim Kendell
