MAGPIE LANE GATING ORDER update (Oct 2011)

The Neighbourhood Action Group meeting was held last night at Sir William Ramsey School. An item was raised regarding an article on the Flackwell Heath website regarding the Magpie Lane Gating Order dated the 5th June.

The request at the meeting was for the article to be updated if possible to let the local community know what is currently happening.

I have enclosed the passage from the October local police newsletter that provided an update:

# - Footpath that runs between Magpie Lane and Heath End Road update - On the 08/09/2011 a meeting was held at Wycombe District Council with representatives from various organisations, which included the local police, Parish Council, Community Safety Officer, etc. A decision was made at the meeting for the Gating Order request to be rejected at this time and that a number of improvements will be made to the footpath instead. The improvements will include the resurfacing of the footpath (which has been complete) , the hedges being cut back and maintained and an assessment of the fence lines to see if additional planting is required to help protect the fences from damage. The HNPT and a representative from the Public Safety Team will also be attended some local schools in the area to try and educate young people about ASB and the impact that it has on the community. The local Police will keep the local community posted with the dates/timescales when the work, etc is due to be carried out.

Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs) are a government initiative intended to help local communities deal with local issues relating to crime. Each NAG comprises representatives of local groups typically including resident associations, the police, your parish and district councillors and other organisations such as schools and retailers.

Our original NAG covered Hughenden, Hazlemere and Chepping Wycombe, and had the unenviable distinction of being the largest in the country. With the departure of the Hughenden team to establish their own NAG, our local group now makes better geographic sense, and will provide a better focus on the needs of our community. However, the NAG needs more local representation in order to truly reflect a broad cross-section of our community.
