REPORTS

Car Rally:  Sunday 30th September

Quickly out of the house as lunch finished, complete with one out of three children – quite a good ratio these days.  Nick drove to the Tennis Club and parked facing the exit for a quick getaway!  At least he thinks twice about leaving the engine running.

Went to the Club House and received our instructions.. not a race.. just for fun.. no racing.  Hmmm, Nick’s competitive spirit subsides a tad but not yet completely!  Followed the first clues, passed Beryl near Little Marlow, joined big queue of traffic through Marlow, counting pubs as we go.  Managed to get to The Dog and Badger and quickly find the name of the village councillor without the need to park.  Saw Paul and Pauline looking for somewhere to park… we’re doing OK and have answered all the questions so far with minimal arguments but some robust discussion.  Then it all went a bit wrong around Hambledon, we completely missed an answer, but turned into Hambledon anyway at the last road turning because we reckoned we must go there for the next couple of answers.  Even Nick is telling us that it’s just for fun.  Counted the village pub twice – once on way in once on way out, Nick’s convinced it’s a trick question – but David was generous and didn’t penalise us for having seen too many pubs (can you see too many pubs?).

Off to Frieth, not easy to find the answer in the Church (this isn’t meant to sound deep and meaningful, just a statement that the answer to the clue was behind a screen)  – Nick reckons this must be hard deliberately as the tie breaker question, so we find it eventually and then we’re off to Booker airfield, and head for home.  Beryl is already at David’s with a cup of tea – took the sensible decision when faced with the traffic in Marlow and came back.  Unfortunately I’m struggling with a cold and don’t feel well, so we don’t want to pass on our germs and after being told we’re roughly right with our answers we head off home.

So, many thanks to David for arranging a fun afternoon, one of the best car treasure hunts we’ve done.  Even if it’s just the two of us (the boys are rapidly developing their own interests), we’re in for next year.  Our marriage is strong enough to take it… just!

Skittles:  Saturday 17th November

The event was held at the Stag & Hounds, Pinkneys Green.  It was well attended by members, their families and friends.

Both the team and individual events were keenly contested, attracting good-natured banter throughout the evening. The interval between the events was taken up tucking into a choice of basket meals – with copious chips!

Christmas Lunch:  Sunday 16th December

Held at the Spade Oak, Bourne End (a new venue), we were struck by the attentiveness of the staff and the quality of the food.

Thank you to Jane, our social secretary, and the committee for organising these events.
